Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the results of a regional economic impactanalysis aimed at quantifying the local macroeconomic effects (on employment and income)generated by the veterinary epidemiology centre «Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentaledell'Abruzzo e del Molise "G. Caporale"» between 1999 and 2010. Like many other researchcentres, the Institute participates in activities which produce impact on national and internationallevel, this makes drawing its field of action and pinpointing the part of the economiceffects that converges in its reference area very difficult. Therefore, in support of the economicimpact analysis, a re-composition of the Institute's transactions framework is proposed. Forthe economic impact assessment, we employed Black's model (2004), suitably adapted to takeinto account the structural characteristics of the reference area. Therefore, the overall economicimpact produced by the Institute is measured in terms of regional income. The transactionanalysis was performed using several indicators.
