Economia dei Servizi, 2010, issue 1, 135-158
Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to analyze the practical implications of the Third European Energy Package in the LNG market. In particular, it firstly describes the main provisions of the Package, required by EU to improve the creation of a single European energy market and to reinforce competition in energy sector and the security of supply. Then, it analyzes the features of LNG market in the light of the Package focusing on three crucial points: the unbundling puzzle; the establishment of an independent Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators; the creation of the European Network of Transmission System (TSO). In the final remarks, some recommendations are provided to make EU strategy actually successful.
