Liberalization and Competition Policies in the Italian Service Sector

Abstract:
This paper aims to investigate the effectiveness of liberalization and competition policies introduced in Italy in the last two decades, with specific regards to the services industry. At first, it is analysed the competition principle as a guideline for the third sector. Then, it is shown the main results of an empirical study realized by CERMES-Bocconi University about the liberalization policies outcomes on four sectors (food sales, non food retail sales, fuel distribution and pharmaceutical distribution). Finally, some concluding remarks are provided.
