Abstract:
Abstract We have identified a morbillivirus in organs of Mediterranean monk seals (Monachus monachus), lost during a recent mass die-off. About half of the population of this highly endangered species, which inhabits the Mauritanian coast of West Africa (Cap Blanc), were killed. The outbreak is reminiscent of several recent morbillivirus outbreaks in aquatic mammals.
