Silk and sequence

Abstract: What determines the structure of silk fibres? This question is of particular interest in the quest to make synthetic silk. It has usually been assumed that the amino acid sequence of the silk protein determines the fibre's crystalline structure; but by using natural silk proteins and drawing them into fibres artificially, new experiments hint that processing may be more important than sequence.
