Abstract: In the field of plant-pathogen interactions there have been three recent bursts of knowledge. The first was the isolation of the disease-resistance (R) genes; the second was the ability to isolate mutants in 'model' plants; and the third was identification of a conserved delivery system in plant and animal pathogens. Progress in all three areas was discussed at two recent meetings.
