Opal appeal

Nature, 2000, vol. 405, issue 6785, 414-414

Abstract: The use of photons for information transmission in part depends on creating the appropriate circuitry. Photonic crystals for the control and routing of optical signals could be used as one component of such circuits. An innovative way of fabricating these crystals involving artificial opal and silicon provides a promising route forward.
