Abstract: Take heart The Framingham Heart Study is a landmark in epidemiology. Since 1948, the health and lifestyles of the inhabitants of Framingham, Massachusetts, have been followed in minute detail. Many risk factors now synonymous with stroke and heart disease were identified first in Framingham residents. Reviewed this week, A Change Of Heart, by Daniel Levy and Susan Brink, tells the story of a project that was almost scrapped in the 1960s. A bestseller in Boston that deserves to do well elsewhere, says our reviewer.
