Abstract: Gut feeling In vertebrates, the cells of the intestine are continually replenished by multipotent stem cells. The discovery of a similar regime in the fruitfly Drosophila has come as a surprise, but a welcome one. With such a well developed genetic model to hand, it should be possible to make great strides in the study of normal and abnormal intestinal function.
