Abstract: Mountain opposition The repository for high-level radioactive waste being constructed beneath Yucca Mountain in Nevada has predictably divided opinion among experts and the inhabitants of Nevada. In Uncertainty Underground: Yucca Mountain and the Nation's High-Level Nuclear Waste, geologists and others from both sides of the argument present the facts and their fears. The book shows clearly that a site such as Yucca Mountain can probably be made safe if the geology and engineering are right, says our reviewer. But whether the public will see it as a good site is another matter — mainly political.
