Abstract: A Problem Shared The GISAID consortium, launched this week, aims to improve the prospects of avoiding or effectively coping with a flu pandemic in the wake of the spread of H5N1 avian influenza virus. The Global Initiative on Sharing Avian Influenza Data would foster international sharing of avian influenza isolates and data, by means of an organization similar to that developed for the successful HapMap project.
