Abstract: A Good Spread Data from the recent seismic reflection survey over the Lucky Strike volcano and hydrothermal vent field in the Atlantic Ocean made from the French ship RV l'Atalante provide the first clear seismic image of an axial magma chamber beneath a slow spreading ridge. Faults can be seen penetrating down to the chamber, a formation that has never been imaged before. These findings provide an insight into the interaction between the volcanic and tectonic processes that contribute to crust formation at slow spreading ridges. The Lucky Strike volcano is situated at the centre of the Lucky Strike segment of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, currently spreading at a rate of about 22 mm per year.
