Abstract: Called to the bar Michael Stebbins's Sex, Drugs, and DNA is, says our reviewer, a book-length rant about the irreverent lives and world-views of molecular biologists. Stebbins addresses the “litany of bullshit and lies” that other scientists dare not talk about in public. Targets range from corrupt politics and dubious marketing of dietary supplements to the religious case against evolution. Some targets are hit, some missed. But if you are looking for the type of off-the-cuff, vulgarity-tinged musings you are likely to hear in a pub favoured by off-duty molecular biologists, this is for you.
