Abstract: A combination of nuclear magnetic resonance measurements and computer simulations is used to probe directly the dynamics of molecular uptake, both inside and out of the hysteresis regime, and identifies marked differences in the dynamics that are directly correlated with the existence or otherwise of hysteresis.
