Abstract: Big for its age A gigantic but very bird-like dinosaur bucks the trend that carnivorous dinosaurs got more bird-like as they got smaller. The new dinosaur, from the Late Cretaceous (roughly 70 million years ago) of Inner Mongolia, China, belonged to the family that included the beaked, bird-like dinosaur Oviraptor, but whereas most dinosaurs in this group rarely exceeded 40 kg in body mass, Gigantoraptor, was about 1,400 kg and 8 metres long.
