Abstract:
Oncogene unmasked A wide-ranging overview of genetic alterations in lung adenocarcinomas, published in this issue, takes a new approach to genome analysis. The analysis of 371 tumours revealed 31 recurrent focal events, only six of which were known previously in lung carcinomas. A new candidate oncogene, TITF1, was found to be significant in a large number of lung cancers. This work shows that there are many more important cancer-related genes still undiscovered, and that systematic genomic study can reveal them.
