Abstract:
Doctors at large In Toward a Global PhD?, edited by Maresi Nerad and Mimi Heggelund, educationalists compare trends in doctoral education from all six continents. They conclude that a truly global system of doctoral education is emerging, with the emphasis on producing good writers, speakers, managers and corporate-friendly team players. Reviewing the book for Nature, John Kirkland cautions that though the demand for international education is genuine, the path of its development is likely to be bumpy. And as Nerad and Heggelund also point out, more research is needed.
