Abstract: Cultural heritage Picking up on a Nature article on the role of botanic gardens in conservation, Christopher Dunn, director of the Lyon Arboretum in Hawaii, makes the point that biological conservation and cultural and linguistic conservation are intimately linked. The maintenance of 'biocultural diversity', rather than biodiversity should be the measure of conservational success.
