Abstract:
Genetics of metabolic diseases Advances in human genomics are increasing our understanding of the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases, caused by the interaction of inborn genetic defects and environmental factors. Stephen O'Rahilly reviews recent progress on two of the most prevalent metabolic disorders, type 2 diabetes and one of its major risk factors, obesity.
