Abstract: Arctic ice loss linked to human actions Recent reductions in the extent of Arctic summer sea ice are well documented, but how they relate to long-term natural variability has remained unclear. Kinnard et al. present a high-resolution reconstruction of past sea-ice cover changes in the Arctic and show that the recent sea-ice loss is unprecedented in the context of the past 1,450 years. This finding supports the suggestion that the recent decrease in summer Arctic sea ice is consistent with forcings from anthropogenic warming.
