Janos Kirz: Janos Kirz is distinguished professor emeritus at Stony Brook University, New York, and scientific adviser for the Advanced Light Source, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California 94720, USA. He was a collaborator and friend of David for nearly 40 years.
Jianwei Miao: University of California, Los Angeles, California 90095, USA. He worked with David on coherent diffraction imaging beginning in 1996, first as a student, then as a collaborator and friend.
