Abstract: Abstract Replying to S. Saavedra & D. B. Stouffer Nature 500, 10.1038/nature12380 (2013) Saavedra and Stouffer1 claim that the results of James et al.2 are a consequence of the method used to randomize interaction matrices. We recognize the importance of examining alternative randomization schemes and have repeated our analysis using their methods. However, we find no evidence that ‘reconfirms the importance of nestedness in mutualistic communities’1.
