Extinct proteins resurrected to reconstruct the evolution of vertebrate haemoglobin

Abstract: The multi-subunit protein haemoglobin relies on complex interactions between its components to function properly. Analysis of ancient precursors suggests that its evolution from a simple monomer involved only a few steps.
