Herbivores drive scarcity of some nitrogen-fixing tropical trees

Abstract: In mature tropical forests, trees that can capture nitrogen experience high levels of herbivory. This could explain the low abundance of such trees, and demonstrates that herbivores can limit nitrogen availability on land.
