Sea ice is shrinking during Antarctic winter: here’s what it means for Earth’s oceans and atmosphere

Laura L. Landrum () and Alice. K. DuVivier ()

Nature, 2024, vol. 636, issue 8043, 578-579

Abstract: The extent of Antarctic sea ice dropped precipitously in 2023. Analysis shows that this decline has increased the transfer of ocean heat to the atmosphere — in turn affecting ocean circulation and the frequency of storms.
