Abstract: The background of this article is the progressing deregulation of flight safety, which by consequence becomes more and more a responsibility of airline companies themselves. As a result it might become subject to economic cost-benefit calculations. The central question is how airline companies deal with their two fundamental objectives flight safety and profitability. An empirical study helps to examine this practical problem.
