Abstract: The paper establishes a critical philosophy of economics based on Hegelian thinking, as it is evolving in the recent Hegel renaissance. Key concepts are Hegelian notions of intention- ality, will and freedom which I condense into the modern term of ›performativity‹. In this light, I discuss the two competing research programs on the economic agent in contempo- rary economics and make their normative content explicit. This step constitutes a critical philosophy of economics.
