Linking Value Dimensions of Employees in South East Europe and their Potential for Socio-Economic Development: A Cross-Country Comparison

Abstract: In our study we explore values of employees of enterprises and local government units in Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Romania, Italy, and Slovenia. The research brings a model of value dimensions based on employee’s potential for education as a resource for regional socio-economic development. Universal values were selected (Individualism, Achievement, Self-direction, Stimulation, Power, Intellectual autonomy) and significant differences between enterprises and between local government units have been found, creating regional value profiles. Our findings show what human values can be used to assess the quality of the workforce and how values related to employees’ aptitude for education can be applied in management to better understand local/regional predispositions for innovation and thus contribute to socio-economic development.
