Abstract:
Even though the world of work is undergoing drastic changes, we need to guard against being enchanted by the new processes and outcomes. This essay argues that the core models for analysing the employment relationship remain central for our understanding of work. An analytical framework is therefore presented that is based on four enduring models and three key objectives of the employment relationship. The relevance of this framework for understanding central issues in the new world of work is demonstrated through its application to labour law and public policies on work, employee participation, and human resource management practices.
