The Chita region: the potential of economic development

L.A.Bondarenko and T.G. Ratkovsky

Journal "Region: Economics and Sociology", 2002, vol. 3, 99-113

Abstract: The paper gives a brief analysis to the current state of the economy of the Chita region, and to the causes for its deep crisis spectacular even against the background of the overall Russian depression. With respect to the economic potential of the region and conditions for its exploitation, the key mineral resource projects are viewed from the perspective of the existence of real investors interested in the particular resource. The regional growth is increasingly more dependent on international ties, especially on the border relationships with North-Asian countries.
