Is There Disinvestment in the Farming Sector?

Abstract: The farming sector is not in a period of net capital withdrawal. The accounting system for the farm sector in the national economic accounts indicates a net disinvestment, while the USDA Balance Sheet accounts overstate investment. This article presents an alternative which uses a cost basis for land.
