Food Demand Matrix in an Approximate Linear Expenditure System

Kozo Sasaki and Yoshikiyo Saegusa

American Journal of Agricultural Economics, 1974, vol. 56, issue 2, 263-270

Abstract: The demand system or matrix for food commodities and commodity groups in Japan is constructed. A demand matrix is obtained by an alternative version of the linear expenditure system, implying a practical and convenient approximation to Powell's system. Indicators of goodness of fit are quite high for the system developed.
