Large brains and groups associated with high rates of agonism in primates

Abstract:
Lay Summary We provide valuable insights into the evolution of primate brain size by demonstrating that relatively large brains are associated with high levels of social competition. Although overall levels of conflict increase in larger groups, the amount of aggression between each individual pair decreases, suggesting that primates in large groups can somewhat mitigate the damaging social costs of conflict.
