Abstract:
Lay SummaryPersonality is a fundamental component of the individual although atypically considered during conservation efforts. For tortoises about to be released into the wild, we quantified personality prior to release and related it to survival and behaviour in their new environments. We show that personality can be used to predict both survival and ability to engage in beneficial behaviours after release. Personality and behaviour may provide meaningful guidance to conservation practitioners.
