Abstract:
This paper provides a more accurate picture of the changes that have taken place in the r elative pay of public and private sector employees than has hitherto been revealed. Changes in effective hourly rates of pay which abstra ct from changes in both the age and occupation composition of the wor kforce are used as the basis against which movements in the public/p rivate sector pay differential are assessed.
