Brian H Pollitt
Cambridge Journal of Economics, 1988, vol. 12, issue 1, 55-65
Abstract:
This article sketches the political and intellectual relationship of Maurice Dobb and Piero Sraffa from the 1920s, and provides a detailed description of their collaboration in the final stages of Sraffa's edition of the Works and Correspondence of David Ricardo. Th e collected papers of Maurice Dobb are drawn upon to illustrate the exigencies of the collaborative process over the period 1948-54. Stress is placed on the crucial role played by Dobb in making it poss ible for Sraffa to publish his edition of Ricardo and thereby to proceed to the publication of Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities.
