European Review of Agricultural Economics, 1987, vol. 14, issue 2, 147-59
Abstract:
This paper provides an application of IIASA's Basic Linked System (BLS) to environmental issues in EC agriculture. A nutrient balance o f EC agriculture is constructed, which reflects the differences betwe en nutrient extraction and delivery of nutrients to the soil; this ba lance is then run together with selected model scenarios. The BLS pro vides insights into the possible economic and environmental consequen ces of certain EC policies for the medium to long term. Policy measur es to protect and improve the environment do not need to be at varian ce with agricultural income objectives. Copyright 1987 by Oxford University Press.
