European Review of Agricultural Economics, 1997, vol. 24, issue 3-4, 549-64
Abstract:
Over 300 papers were presented to the VIIIth Congress of the European Agricultural Economics Association, of which around 100 dealt with policy issues facing the agrifood sector. This article was presented as a rapporteur's report to the final plenary session of the Congress. It reviews the distribution of papers by thematic issue and highlights some relevant research findings presented to the Congress. The Congress attracted papers largely in the areas of traditional policy analysis transition economics and environmental economics, while work reporting on farm-level adjustments, rural development and the food industry was under-represented. The article concludes that, on the basis of the work presented at the Congress, the agricultural economics profession continues to have an important and lively research agenda.
