Abstract:
This commentary on Pisano’s (2017) article examines the distinction between general-purpose and application/market-specific knowledge in the context of capability creation. I argue that these types of knowledge are intertwined in capability search and creation, which has implications for capability development paths and for dynamic capabilities.
