Abstract:
In this article, we put forward a framework for conceptualizing processes of linkage capability-building in firms based in developing countries, so-called latecomer firms. To do this, we combine the literature on latecomer capabilities with insights from the literature on industrial marketing and supply-chain management. Our framework distinguishes between different levels of development across three capability categories: envisioning opportunities for useful market and knowledge-based linkages, engaging with external partners in ways that create suitable organizational arrangements, and exploiting relationships for technological learning.
