The Shadow Economy and Corruption in Romania

Claudiu Bocean ()

Ovidius University Annals, Economic Sciences Series, 2010, vol. X, issue 1, 543-546

Abstract: Shadow economic activities constitute a large and growing part of all economic activity throughout the world. Because all individuals engaged in these activities wish not to be identified it is very difficult to get accurate information about the relationship between corruption and shadow economy activities. The paper highlights the interaction between the underground economy and corruption using comparative analysis. It discusses the theoretical approach to shadow economic activities and focuses on the determinants of the Romanian economy concluding that Romania record a high incidence of corruption and a large shadow economy.
