Considerations Regarding the Importance of the Service Sector in the National Economy. A Romanian Case Study

Abstract: The economic literature and practices show that an efficient service sector, with a high level of quality, is a decisive factor of the sustainable economic development and competitiveness of modern economies. In this paper we would like to highlight, through a statistical-economic analysis, the importance of the service sector in the process of economic growth and job creation, compared with other sectors of Romanian economy in the period 1990- 2008. For Romania, the existence of a constant concern for efficiency and services quality is imperative both at the national and regional level in order to accede to the status of a country with a developed economy, a knowledge-based economy.
