Abstract: The capital adequacy as a restrictive measure imposed on banks is the basic concern of bank regulators, as a banking system consisting of highly capitalized banks will overcome much easier the various risks to which it is exposed. This article refers to regulations made by the Basel II Accord as well as the implementation of a new Basel III capital accord, which aims at developing a global framework to promote a much stronger liquidity in financial credit institutions.
