Abstract: The protected areas’ issues are debated today at all levels, from the local to global. Taking into account the evolution of interest in protected areas, their expansion, came the necessity of implementing a performance management, both in terms of organization of protected areas, as well as regarding the protection and conservation. In the current period, management of protected areas is a complex activity that involves a significant number of people, development of specific legislation and cooperation with other economic sectors, including tourism. From this perspective, modern management requires a holistic vision, leading to an integrated tourism development, ensuring sustainable development activities taking place in the protected areas. This work was supported by CNCSIS –UEFISCDI, project number PNII – IDEI 1811/2008, “Implementation dynamic of the communitarian politics in valorisation through tourism of the Romanian protected areas and the projection of an integrate management architecture of these protected areas”.
