Abstract: This paper aims at defining, measuring and determining the effects of the underground economy. Consequently, it focuses on the specific aspects of every type of assessment method used in the specialty literature of this phenomenon and the possibility to apply them to the realities of the Romanian economy. Underground economy is a fact of life in the entire world, with clear signals of becoming more and more extensive, reaching remarkable dimensions and offering serious grounds for concern over the past few decades.
