Abstract: The developing regions creation represents a real challenge for the economic progress of EU countries. While some regions have an advantageous position in terms of future development conditions, there are others where are identified numerous impediments, on multiple levels. A detailed analysis of regional development possibilities requires a consideration of various and multiple criteria analysis. In this paper we will refer to a development region from Romania, the North-East Region, which although holds a reach portfolio in terms of development conditions, is faced to many problems and obstacles. The main aspect that we identified as an obstacle for development of this region is the urban-rural disparities. The present study aimed to identify the main specific coordinates of rural sustainable development.
