Abstract:
Many practices attempting to manage individual and corporate learning have over time converged into what is now labelled ‘knowledge management’. A number of disciplines have been involved in this evolution, ranging from psychology to management. This diversity has culminated in the development of a range of terms such as ‘the learning organization’, ‘intellectual capital management’, ‘intellectual asset management’ and ‘knowledge management’. From these beginnings it is easy to conclude that the modern conceptualization of knowledge management is an umbrella for capturing a range of organizational concerns. Irrespective of the precise terminology, there fortunately is common understanding that knowledge management encapsulates a more organic and holistic way of understanding and leveraging people within work processes for business benefit.
