Abstract: Entrepreneurship constitutes a key element for ensuring the dynamism of the modern market economy. The entrepreneurial activity has the potential to respond the challenges of a changing environment in the global context. The aims of our paper are to present in short the impact of the economic and financial crisis on the Romanian enterprises and to analyse its effects at the regional development level. A set of two hypotheses were tested and validated during our research by using the information provided by the National Trade Register Office. Our research has shown that the crisis has led to the decrease both of the entrepreneurial activity in Romania and of the total turnover of the enterprises in the period 2008-2009.
