Food Security in the Future Common Agricultural Policy

Abstract: Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has been the centerpiece of European integration, being the strongest common policy of the European Union. Although, due to its long history, it has been reformed on many occasion. Health Check is already a matter of past, so, the reform of the CAP post-2013 represents a hot topic and a major concern for EU member states. The reform of the CAP should continue in order to ensure the growth of competitiveness, efficient use of natural resources, to adopt the right measures in order to respond to several challenges, one of them being food security. Facing these challenges, CAP will contribute to “EU 2020 Strategy” in terms of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. While EU citizens demand high quality and a wide choice of products, EU agriculture is facing a more competitive environment and should be able to respond to world food demand.
