Abstract: In a world of increasing globalization, where political, economic and technological barriers are rapidly disappearing, the ability of a country to participate in global economic activity is an important indicator of its performance and competitiveness. In order to remain competitive, modern business relationships extend well beyond the traditional foreign exchange of goods and services, increasing reliance of enterprises on mergers, partnerships, joint ventures, licensing agreements, and other forms of business cooperation realized through foreign direct investments. Because of the globalization phenomenon the foreign direct investments flows can vary considerably from one year to another, as they are often influenced by large mergers and acquisitions and also by economic development of each country. In this paper is presented the evolution of foreign direct investment in Romania during the current crisis period, which started in 2008 and their impact over the exports and imports of foreign direct investments enterprises.
